White Cross

The area where Bradford Road meets Otley Road is known as White Cross. This is where the world famous Harry Ramsdens fish and chip shop used to stand which is now a branch of the Wetherby Whaler.

Please note: the Guiseley pages are a work in progress and may take a couple of years to complete initially. You are welcome to look at what I've done so far!

The Birks

The row of houses on the right hand side just before you come to White Cross is known as The Birks.

Harry Ramsdens

Harry Ramsdens was a world famous fish and chip shop which started life right here in Guiseley.

The business was started by Harry Ramsden in 1928 in a wooden hut in White Cross, Guiseley. Three years later he moved into a new premises, complete with fitted carpets, oak panelled walls, and chandeliers. The original hut still stands on the same site adjacent to the main restaurant, which once held the Guinness World Record for the largest fish and chip shop in the world, seating 250 people, serving nearly a million customers a year.

The building still stands today although it is now owned by a different company.
